Performative earth facade

Universidad de Los Andes, Colombia

EqualsTo Design lab was thrilled to kick off our first workshop and collaboration with Universidad de Los Andes. This also marked our first collaboration with an esteemed international university, allowing us the privilege of working alongside some of the best minds in the Latin American region. The workshop focused on optimizing the design of natural tiles, and specifically delved into analyzing their natural and physical strength as a facade. Over the course of five intensive days, participants engaged in hands-on activities aimed at enhancing their understanding of the subject. The highlight of the workshop was the final prototyping stage, where participants used a carefully crafted, natural-optimized clay mix. Through the use of parametric design and scaling it up to comprehend it as an entire system, students were able to produce stunning, functional tiles ready to be implemented in various architectural experiments. This collaboration proved to be a fruitful endeavor, bringing together diverse expertise and fostering a spirit of innovation and exploration. We look forward to the many exciting workshops to come in our partnership with Universidad de Los Andes.
