Structural Optimization by design
LSR school of architecture, Mumbai
The purpose of this workshop was to provide a platform for participants to delve into the realm of parametric tools within Karamba 3D. In a short duration, we conducted an intensive and explorative workshop that allowed participants to gain a comprehensive understanding of the software and its capabilities. To further reinforce the learning experience, the workshop also focused on applying the acquired knowledge to physical test models. Participants were able to experience the feedback loop and analyze dynamic structures, while enforcing specific structural rules and optimizing them for ideal conditions. As a culmination of the workshop, participants engaged in the final prototyping, where they explored and constructed a double-curved structure. Utilizing cane sticks to emulate the tensile strength of bamboo or steel bars, and lycra to mimic the tensile membrane, the final prototypes demonstrated the successful application of the knowledge gained during the workshop. The workshop proved to be an enriching experience, allowing participants to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical implementation.
